POSITION IS TO FLY NC FOREST SERVICE (DFR) HELICOPTERS IN NORTH

CAROLINA & OTHER AREAS OF THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S AS REQUIRED. PRINCIPLE

DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMTED TO: HELICOPTER FLIGHTS IN SUPPORT OF

FOREST FIRE SUPPRESSION EFFORTS WITH EXTERNAL SLING LOADS, CONSISTING

MAINLY OF BAMBI BUCKETs WITH WATER/FOAM DELIVERY SYSTEMS. OTHER

EXTERNAL LOADS ON LONG LINE FOR THE RESUPPLY OF GROUND CREWS ARE

COMMON. CREW TRANSPORTATION TO & FROM FIRE INCIDENTS FOR CONTAINMENT &

RECON ARE COMMON ALONG WITH OTHER DFR MISSIONS. ADMINISTER TO THE

HELICOPTER PROGRAM TO WHICH ASSISGNED; THIS WOULD INCLUDE SUPERVISION

OF THE CREW CHIEF; & RESPONSIBILITY FOR TIMESHEETS & OTHER RELATED

PAPERWORK FOR PERSONNEL ASSIGNED; ALSO OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY

SUPERVISOR. THE WORK HOURS ARE NORMALLY 0800-1700 MONDAY - FRIDAY.

WORK HOURS MAY VARY DURING PERIODS OF HIGH FIRE OCCURENCE & OTHER

MISSIONS AWAY FROM HOME BASE. JOB WILL REQUIRE SOME TRAVEL FROM DUTY

STATION TO PERFORM FIRE MISSIONS & PERIODS OF MAINTENANCE TO THE

HELICOPTER. THESE PERIODS COULD BE OVERNIGHT & UP TO AS MANY AS 14

DAYS AT A TIME & 14 HOUR DUTY DAYS.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

CURRENT WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF FAA REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO COMMERCIAL

HELICOPTER OPERATIONS. THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE AMERICAN EUROCOPTER

(AS350 series) HELICOPTER, OR AS A MINUIMUM KNOWLEDGE OF TYPE II

HELICOPTER OPERATIONS AS CLASSIFIED BY THE USFS. MUST KNOW THE

REQUIREMENTS OF TIME LIFE COMPONENTS; TRACKING & RECORDING OF

COMPONENTS IN THE LOGBOOKS. SKILLS IN PILOTING & NAVIGATING

HELICOPTERS AT LOW ALTITUDES OVER ALL TYPES OF TERRAIN IN ADVERSE

FLIGHT CONDITIONS WORKING WITH EXTERNAL LOADS & IN DIMINISHED

VISIBILITY DUE TO SMOKE. ABILITY TO WORK LONG HOURS. ABILITY TO

ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS & RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE PUBLIC &

OTHER STATE/FEDERAL AGENCIES. ABILITY TO PREPARE & MAINTAIN ACCURATE

LOGS/REPORTS. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - CERTIFICATION AS A FAA

COMMERCIAL OR ATP PILOT IN ROTORCRAFT, POSSESSION OF A CURRENT FAA

CLASS II OR I MEDICAL CERTIFICATE. MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN A VALID NC

DRIVERS LICENSE WITHIN 90 DAYS OF HIRE & AN NC FOREST RANGER

APPOINTMENT IF REQUIRED. RESIDENCY REQUIRED WITHIN 30 MILES OR 40

MINUTES OF KINSTON REGIONAL OFFICE - KINSTON NC.

Training and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school and a minimum of 1000 hours of flight time

in a closely related type of aircraft and/or type of mission, along

with a minimum of three years of related experience; or an equivalent

combination of training and directly related experience. Necessary

Special Requirements - Certification as a FAA commercial pilot in

airplanes and/or rotorcraft, and possession of an FAA Class II Medical

Certificate. May also require ratings in multi-engine (land),

instrument flying or others as designated. Degrees must be from

appropriately accredited institutions.
