Duties:
This position works under the direction of the Director of Fleet Management and Chief Pilot. The position is to provide air service and support for various provincial government departments and agencies. Responsible for the safe and effective completion of assigned duties, while maintaining compliance of various regulations, including provincial OH&S regulations (other Provinces / States while in their jurisdiction), any and all regulations as mandated under Transport Canada CAR’s, and the aircraft manufacturers operating procedures. Provide safe operation of the Provinces fleet of helicopters, which include a Bell 212, MD 500 E’s and an EC-120. Must be proficient in flight planning, weight and balance, passenger briefing and safety, slinging, long lining, fire bucketing. Provide close interaction with local police agencies, RCMP, EMO and other Government departments. Provide inland search and rescue. Ability to work unsupervised and to make appropriate decisions concerning life and property while in command of Department aircraft. Candidate must be able to remain away from main base for extended periods of time.
Qualifications:
Candidate must possess a Grade 12 or equivalent. Must possess at minimum, a valid Canadian Commercial helicopter pilots licence. Must have valid current Transport Canada Medical certificate. A number of years directly related experience and knowledge in the aviation industry as a commercial helicopter pilot. Experience levels / flight hours are expected to be certifiable if required. Pilot flight times must be a minimum of 2000 hours flight time as pilot in command in helicopters. A minimum of 1500 hours of pilot in command in turbine helicopters. Ideal candidates will possess endorsements for at least two of the three helicopter types. Ideal candidate will have current PPC’s on those types. Factory training on those types will be considered an asset. Experience with slinging, long lining, fire bucketing a must. Knowledge of the department flying requirements, local weather conditions, flight planning, weight and balance, passenger briefing and safety, slinging, long lining, fire bucketing. Knowledge and experience with operations involving GPS. Additionally, candidate must possess a knowledge of Transport Canada Air Regulations. Experience with live wildlife capture an asset. Excellent interpersonal skills are required as the position requires interaction with a diverse range of clients. Must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills. Demonstrate good judgement in decision making and problem solving. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, Computers, Word Perfect, MS Word. Candidate must possess a valid drivers licence and clear driver abstract.
