Job Desc: The chief pilot supervises Sanborn’s pilots and has overall responsibility for pilot training, aircraft maintenance and the safety of Sanborn’s flight operations. The chief pilot is required to act as pilot in command of a licensed air operation in accordance with the rules and regulations of FAA 14CFR Part 91 in the daily operation of data acquisition. These duties will necessitate the absence from the home base for up to 300 days per year. The Chief Pilot is responsible for the professional standards of the pilots under his/her authority and also serves as a pilot on a Sanborn’s flight missions.
Requirements: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES
·Supervising all pilots.
·Insuring all pilots adhere to FAA regulations and meet the requirements for a Pilot in Command (PIC) per FAA part 91.
·Developing standard operating procedures and insuring compliance from all pilots.
·Developing and implementing all required approved pilot training programs.
·Issuing directives and notices to the pilots as required.
·Interviewing for new pilots and working with Human Resources to facilitate the new hire process for pilots.
·Providing employee performance reviews in accordance with Sanborn’s standard schedule and as needed.
·The operational suitability and requirements of all aerodromes and routes served by the operator.
·Processing and distributing of accident, incident, and other occurrence reports, and if necessary taking corrective action.
·Processing of any pilot reports and if necessary taking corrective action.
·Fulfilling responsibilities as delegated by the Acquisition Manager.
·Determining the qualification of pilot training facilities and insuring pilot training is update to date and completed as required.

  • Reviewing the weather forecasts and making recommendations for the relocation of aircraft and crew to maximize the acquisition of data.
  • Providing reports in reference to the progression of the photo acquisition and the projected weather outlook.
  • Ensuring that all the maps for the jobs are dispersed to the appropriate aircrew and Air Traffic control centers.
  • Coordinating and assisting pilots in obtaining airspace clearance for restricted airspace areas.
  • Coordinating and insuring all maintenance logs are up to date and current.
  • Coordinating with flight planning staff to insure efficient collection scenarios are devised for the type of aircraft to be used.
  • Serving as a decision maker and providing recommendations on safety of flight issues.
  • Coordinating with contracted companies to ensure the maximum use of aircraft.
  • Addressing with issues which may arise between pilots and air traffic control supervisors to prevent the loss of production time in the air.
  • Collaborating with other flight operations staff to ensure the maintenance and the operational status of the aircraft.
  • Assisting and ensuring pilots maintain the professional appearance of the aircraft by cleaning them.
  • Setting and following through with the pilot rotations to ensure the smooth continuation of work.
  • Preparing aircraft for photo acquisition jobs, by assisting with the installation of required equipment.
  • Presenting and demonstrating aircraft capabilities to clients as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • In addition to the regulated chief pilot duties as outlined the Chief Pilot must also demonstrate thorough understanding of TITLE 14 CFR PARTS 61, 91, 135, and 141.
 EDUCATION

·Bachelor of Science in Aviation or equivalent experience. 

·Experience in private industry, working in the photogrammetric mapping industry.
·Active commercial pilot’s license.
·IFR Rating.

 EXPERIENCE

·Minimum of 1,500 hours total flying time as pilot in charge.

·Minimum of 500 hours multi-engine.
·Proficiency with computers and software. 
·Annual ground and flight training required in make and model of designated aircraft.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
·Active commercial pilot’s license.
·IFR Rating.
·1st class medical certification from FAA.
·Acceptance/insurability by Sanborn’s aviation carrier.
·Successful completion of initial drug screen and subsequent drug screens.
·Successful completion of a background check, including driving record.
·Annual ground and flight training required in make and model of designated aircraft.

·Ability to provide flight training in designated make and model, to pilots.
