Qualifications

(1) The Chief Pilot shall be qualified in accordance with the CASS respecting the use of helicopters in AERIAL WORK/AIR TAXI operations.

Responsibilities

(1) The Chief Pilot shall:

(a) be responsible to the Operations Manager for the safe and efficient operation of Company helicopters and the supervision of flight crews;

(b) be responsible for establishing approved flight crew ground and flight training programs;

(c) develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) if applicable;

(d) be responsible for implementing and for the conduct of flight crew training and periodic checks, and shall ensure that each flight crew member is competent to carry out assigned duties and is capable of passing the PPC as described in the CASS;

(e) ensure that all flight crew members are instructed and examined in the use of emergency and life saving equipment required to be carried onboard company helicopters, and that all flight crews are drilled in emergency evacuation of the aircraft used;

(f) ensure that all directives and notices are issued to flight crews;

(g) establish and maintain a pilot file on each company pilot in accordance with section 5.16 of this manual;

(h) establish examinations to serve as tests of knowledge of flight crews;

(i) maintain a current information library and ensure and that all publications are readily available to each flight crew member;

(j) assume any responsibilities delegated by the Operations Manager;

(k) action and distribute accident, incident and other occurrence reports;

(l) process and action any crew reports; and

(m) during absences, appoint another company employee who is qualified in accordance with the CARS, to hold the position of Chief Pilot. The appointee shall be responsible for the duties of the Chief Pilot.
