ID: 38884 Michigan's only flight-physician staffed air medical transport program, Aero Med is wholly owned by Spectrum Health. SUMMARY Operates the Aero Med Spectrum Health helicopters, and maintains authority for decision making regarding acceptance of flights as it relates to safety, mechanical and weather conditions. Assists and supports the Manager of Flight Operations in all aspects regarding corporate policy and actions. Performs duties as specified in Aero Med Spectrum Health General Operations Manual, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Operations Specifications (OPSPECs). QUALIFICATIONS: o FAA Commercial Rotorcraft / Helicopter License with Instrument endorsement Must demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of all applicable regulatory requirements including but not limited to Aero Med Spectrum Health approved/accepted manuals, applicable CFR’s including Part(s) 61/91/119/135 Operations Specifications, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Orders, Airworthiness Directives, Advisory Circulars, Handbook Bulletins, aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, as well as the airworthiness requirements of Aero Med Spectrum Health. Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Time management and organizational skills. Self directed. Ability to make quality, independent decisions. Analytical and strong problem solving skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions. Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality. Ability to listen to others. Competency in the use of a variety of computer hardware and software systems. PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands and work environments described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Must be independently mobile. Must occasionally bend and lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. High Noise levels exist. Subjected to potentially dangerous helicopter related equipment and normal in flight risks. Exposure to blood and body fluids. Possible exposure to a variety of contagious diseases and/or radioactive or other hazardous materials. Exposure to extremes in temperature. Potential exposure to hazards found at scenes of motor vehicle crashes. Depth perception and peripheral vision abilities required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following: Maintains required documentation per FAA / company standards. Communicates, collaborates and acts as a resource to team members and others in order to facilitate continuity and coordination of services. Acts as a resource to members of the community in outreach initiatives. Maintain accountability for the safety of helicopter operations. Provides input into the development / revision of policies / procedures related to area of accountability. Participates in process improvement activities to improve outcomes. Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis. Performs other duties as assigned.
