Job Summary

The Pilot-in-Command is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of the flight assignment and is authorized by Arkansas Children's Hospital to initiate a flight based on information received from the Angel One Communications Center and information regarding weather or other factors that may impact the safety of flight.

Job Duties

Aviation Operations and Safety
1. Plans flight assignments and obtains briefing information regarding purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures and special instructions.

2. Complies with all FAA Regulations, 135 Manual, Safety Manual, Training Manual and all other ACH policies and procedures.

3. Conducts a start of shift briefing with the medical, communications and ground personnel at Angel One Transport.

4. Prepares flight plan considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, airport facilities and navigational aids.

5. Ensures at the beginning of the shift that the aircraft is preflighted, inspected, loaded, equipped and manned for the flight assignment. Completes a walk around inspection of the aircraft prior to initiation of every flight segment.

6. Supervises loading and distribution of cargo and passengers and determines that weight and balance is within prescribed limitations per load computer or the approved rotorcraft flight manual.

7. Ensures cargo is properly secured and provisions for passenger comfort and emergency equipment are aboard.

8. Files, activates and closes the flight plan.

9. Checks aircraft discrepancy log prior to flight to ensure all discrepancies have been corrected or properly deferred prior to flight.

10. Logs all mechanical discrepancies as they occur and informs maintenance personnel and Angel One Communications Center of all discrepancies.

11. Ensures proper completion of flight logs, records and maintenance forms.

12. Completes records and/or statistics as required by ACH.

13. Participates in debriefings on all flights.

14. Keep personal navigation charts current and up to date.

15. Keep personal copy of the Part 135 Operations Manual up to date.

16. Report for duty not less than 30 minutes prior to dispatch time. This is for the accomplishment of briefings, preflight inspections and paperwork.

17. Monitor all weather situations and update Angel One Communications Center of same.

18. Notify the Director of Operations whenever the pilot may violate any rule due to being dispatched on a flight.

19. Notify the Director of Operations whenever a medical deficiency exists that would affect the safety of flight.

20. Maintains proficiency as Pilot-in-Command and proficiency in SPIFR operations.

21. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.

22. The Pilot-in-Command may delegate functions to other personnel but retains responsibility.
