HAWCS are seeking helicopter pilots with CPL(H) licence to train and work with us as Aerial Observers, joining our teams that conduct aerial power line inspections throughout regional Australia.
HAWCS Aerial Observers accompany Pilots in Command (PIC) in conducting aerial power line inspections across regional Australia. The primary purpose of the role is to observe and record information using camera and recording equipment. HAWCS provide specific training in the role and in the use of specific camera and recording equipment.
Aerial Observers also:
•Ensure that camera and computer equipment are maintained
•Assist PIC with daily routine maintenance
•Clean and secure aircraft to ensure safe and reliable operation
•General hangar based cleaning and maintenance
•Refuelling of helicopters
Aerial Observers also play a vital safety role. The Pilot in Command is supported by the Observer in both identifying potential obstructions and by providing relief, ensuring that the maximum daily flying hours are not exceeded and undue fatigue is prevented.
HAWCS is based in SE Qld but contracts are nationwide so the ability to work away for several weeks at a time is essential. Rosters vary by contract and will be discussed at time of interview.
Minimum Essential Requirements:
•Ability to work away from home for several weeks at a time
•Willing and able to undertake training in using camera and recording equipment
•Adequate physical fitness to position, carry and operate camera and recording equipment consistently for up to 7 hours per day, amidst the associated noise, wind and movements of the helicopter
•Valid and current MR licence or higher (HR)
•Current Dangerous Goods (DG) drivers licence
•Current Dangerous Goods (DG) by Air certificate
•Excellent communication skills
•Ability to work effectively in a small team
•Initiative and attention to detail to ensure safe and efficient work practices
•Flexible, adaptable, positive attitude
