Pilots fly missions and aircraft which vary with the department to which the position is assigned. Pilots must maintain current certification to fly agency aircraft which may include jets, turboprop single- and/or multi-engine airplanes, rotorcraft helicopter or other equipment owned or leased by the agency.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing flight operations; performs and/or supervisors performance of duties of lower level pilots; and supervises air service and flight personnel; schedules flights; schedules and controls maintenance and performs aircraft servicing; and prepares and monitors the budget. This position supervises one Pilot 3 and any contract pilot. This position requires rotor-craft helicopter experience and A&P certification. The Department owns and operates a Bell Jet Ranger 206 BIII and Bell Jet Ranger 407. The department is not requiring any fixed-wing flight time experience at this time.

Job Requirements:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education, and 5,000 hours logged, pilot-in-command total flight time, with a minimum of 1,000 hours in single-and/or multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft and 4,000 hours in rotorcraft helicopter, as designated by the agency at the time of recruitment. Flight experience must include a minimum of 250 hours in low-level flight; 250 hours conducting external load operations; 500 hours mountain flying above 5,000 feet mean sea level; 100 hours of flight time within the preceding 12 months; and one year of experience which included responsibility for assisting in the supervision of flight operations.

Special Requirements

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid second class medical certificate issued by an authorized FAA medical examiner is required.

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

May be required to obtain Interagency Co-Operator Wild Land Fire Fighting Certification in support of the Nevada Division of Forestry.

Additional Position Experience

This position requires 4,000 hours logged in rotorcraft helicopter.

This position requires that you hold an Airframe & Powerplant Certification issued by the FAA

A valid commercial pilot certificate with rotorcraft helicopter land rating, including instrument rating, for rotorcraft helicopter issue by the FAA is required.

The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.

Of these 5,000 hours, a minimum of 1,000 hours in single and/or multi-engine aircraft; and 4,000 hours in rotorcraft helicopter. These two elements must be describe in detail including type of aircraft/rotorcraft flown, total Pilot-in-Command flight time for each, and where these hours were obtained.
4) Please describe in detail your Pilot-in-Command flight time in which you performed a minimum of 250 hours of low-level flight. In your description, include type of aircraft and where you obtained these Pilot-in-Command flight hours.
5) Please describe in detail your Pilot-in-Command flight time in which you performed 250 hours of external load operations. In your description, include type of aircraft and where you obtained these Pilot-in-Command flight hours.
6) Please describe in detail your Pilot-in-Command flight time in which you performed 500 hours mountain flying above 5,000 feet mean sea level. In your description, include type of aircraft and where you obtained these Pilot-in-Command flight hours.
7) Do you have 100 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time within the preceding 12 months? Please explain.
8) Do you have one year of experience which included responsibility for assisting in the supervision of flight operations? Describe this experience, including number of years and where you obtained this experience.
