Head of Training and Checking (Toll Helicopters)

Toll Helicopters is a multi-disciplinary operational organisation with large scale government contracts in the EMS / SAR / AIRBORNE LAW ENFORCEMENT sectors. Toll Helicopters provides extensive training services across its existing contracts and from its world class Aeromedical Crewing Excellence Training Centre (ACE-TC) based in Sydney Australia.

The ACE-TC is the hub of Toll’s training, delivering domestic training under CASR Part 141/142, domestic and international training as the only Leonardo / Agusta Westland OEM Authorised Training Centre for the region, and also Vocational Educational Training (VET) under Toll’s approved RTO. The ACE-TC employs training aids such as a Level D dual EASA and CASA certified AW139 Full Flight Simulator, a Sea Survival Training Centre with a METS30 HUET trainer, and a virtual reality based AW139 Full Crew Trainer. The centre will soon have advanced aeromedical clinical training simulation facilities, to complete the full spectrum of aeromedical training opportunities. Due to structured growth and forecast internal staff movements, Toll Helicopters is looking for a Head of Training and Checking (HOTAC) to manage our training system.

Head of Training and Checking

You will be responsible for regulatory oversight (including CASA, OEM and ASQA liaison), design and management of all aspects of training within Toll Helicopters, standardisation of instructional staff, and management of training outcomes. Accountabilities include holding the position of Head of Operations for Part 141 and 142 training activities, management of the Training and Checking Organisation (TCO) on behalf of the Chief Pilot, managing the Toll Helicopters RTO operations on behalf of the CEO, and potentially fulfilling the Deputy / Alternate Chief Pilot role.

You will have experience in Multi-Engine Helicopter flight training, including under the IFR and NVIS. You should hold current Flight Instructor and Flight Examiner Ratings, and have AW139 and Bell 412 type qualifications. Ideally you will have experience in EMS, SAR, Law Enforcement and Offshore operations. You will have extensive previous experience within Training and Checking, and/or Flight Training Organisations, and preferably detailed familiarity with RTOs.

Requirements

  • ATPL(H), Flight Instructor Rating, Flight Examiner Rating, NVIS Rating, Multi-Engine Instrument Rating.
  • Minimum hours - 2500 Total, 2000 PIC Helicopter, 1500 PIC Turbine, 500 PIC Multi-Engine, 250 NVIS, and 500 Instructor
  • Extensive background in Multi-Engine Helicopter training and checking, including on AW139 and Bell 412.
  • Extensive background in training development and management, with excellent CRM and training delivery skills.
  • High level knowledge of civil aviation legislation, including CASRs, CAR, CAOs and CAAs.
  • Expert communication, written, reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven management experience, including the ability to coordinate diverse range of personnel and assets.
  • Hold or suitability to complete / upgrade to current version of Cert IV Training & Assessment.
  • Must have balanced operational, technical and commercial skillsets.
  • Experience in EMS, Offshore, Law Enforcement and / or SAR operations an advantage.
  • Excellent IT skills, including use of MS Excel, Word, and interactive software
