WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a full-time experienced Helicopter Pilot for the Police Department. This is a 24/7 operation and the selected candidatemust be willing to work a fluctuating 24 hour schedule as required.

The incumbent should possess a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training in helicopter piloting or a related field and two (2) years of experience as a helicopter pilot. The experience must include a minimum of 2000 hours of helicopter flight time; also included in experience:

  • 500 hours in type (Bell 206); and
  • 250 hours of unaided night flight;
  • FAA Commercial Pilot's License with Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating;
  • FAA 2nd Class Medical Certification.

All finalists will be asked to pass a check-ride in a Bell 206BIII.

As a City of Fort Worth Police Department employee, the incumbent will contribute to the strategic goals, mission and vision of the department and the City by providing safe and efficient air transportation services in support of various Police Department functions including traffic patrol and enforcement, pursuit of criminals, location and spotlighting of crime scenes or various other law enforcement activities.

The incumbent must also be able to operate and maneuver helicopter for assigned police functions in a safe and effective manner, perform aerial searches to locate and spot light missing persons as required.

The incumbent must perform pre and post flight inspections of helicopters and auxiliary equipment and prepare flight inspection reports and other analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.

Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following:

  • Higher levels of education, training and experience as it relates to the vacancy;
  • Instrument Helicopter Rating or Airline Transport Pilot Rating preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Final candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a criminal background, drug screen, polygraph examination and fingerprint check. Applicants must not have used marijuana during the previous twelve (12) months, nor illegally used any controlled substances within the last ten (10) years.

Environmental Conditions :

Positions in this class may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, and workspace restrictions.

Physical Conditions :

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
